Silk Paints

Silk paints.

In Europe the use of silk paints rather than dyes is more common. The difference is that the paints are usually artist pigments specially formulated for the production of paintings rather than textiles. Silk Paints bind to the surface of the silk support.

Silk paints are water based and usually acrylic medium mixed with pigments and are fixed by ironing. The paintings are ironed on a hot ( cotton setting) for several minutes (keeping the iron moving). If water-soluble gutta is used this is then washed out by soaking in cold water then the painting can be ironed again and prepared for framing.

Here are some examples

1.Dyna-flo paint.

You can use for several techniques as well as salt and alcohol.

Dyna-flo is a very thin paint used for silk painters for different techniques. However the softness of the dyes is not transmitted when you paint with the paints. It loses its softness as well as its shimmer. This paint also is iron set after 3-4 minutes and can be used with water resist.

2.Seta Silk Paint by Pebeo.

This is also a paint rather than dye, and it has almost the same texture as the the Dyna-flo. 3-4 minutes you iron and the paint is set. You can also use it with the water based resists.

You can use it with several techniques as well as salt and water.
