The New Mexico Silk Painters Guild grew explosively during the summer and now brags of a membership of 25 painters, several beginners along with well-seasoned artists with many years of studio and merchandise experience.
Most recently NMSPG staged what has become their biennial display at the Albuquerque Sunport. Though items could not be advertised for sale, the public inquired about silk painting lessons and a query to buy the first ever scarf a new member had painted! Talk about shot in the arm!
Several members will take part in pre-holiday art shows and fairs including Festival of the Cranes at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Reserve in central NM along the Rio Grande in November. Silk Worm Editor, Brooke Wiley spent 9 pre-dawn days selling garments, etc. at the Albuquerque International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in October. She has not been heard from since though it's reported she went right back to gathering news for our pleasure and information as the last 2009 edition of the Silkworm goes to print.
