Resist
Authors: Lee Zimmerman

In classical silk painting techniques, resists are used to guide the flow of the dyes through the silk fiber. This allows the artist to set up hard lines between different color sections in the image - much like the lead solder in a stained glass window. Jean Louis Mirealt says "Gutta can serve to define spaces and prevent dyes from bleeding but you can also use gutta just to draw. That is what I call decorative gutta."
