Artist Statement

I have over twenty-five years in the textile design field with fifteen years of silk painting experience. My designs have been sold to major manufactures. I also have been exhibiting my silk paintings in galleries and museums.

My silk paintings Table Set For One won honorable mention at the Hecksher Museum and was featured in the NY Times Art Review. I have been teaching silk painting at the Long Island Art League for the past 5 years and hold a degree in Textile Design from the fashion Institute of Technology and have also studied at Parsons School of Design in NYC.

I really enjoy silk painting, as it is a wonderful form of expression. I love working with the dyes, my favorites are steam set dyes because of the intensity and shades of colors.

The paintings I have selected for this web site are from memories or places I have been or scenes I have seen. Sometimes I paint on untreated silk using gutta lines to hold the dyes within certain areas. I also have treated silk with a mixture of gutta and turpenoid to stop the dyes from running to paint in details or paint in a watercolor effect.
